Zotero

Introduction
When writing a lengthy paper (e.g., a Master’s thesis or a PhD dissertation), students sometimes choose to use a citation software program (e.g., Zotero, Mendeley and EndNote) to collect, save, import, and organize their citations from our article databases and other sources.
Citation software programs (aka Citation Managers) can help students to:
- store/organize citations electronically
- save PDFs, references, and other documents
- format citations for your papers and References/Bibliographies using APA, MLA, Chicago and many other styles
- create in-text citations using Microsoft Word
- include your own notes
While some citation software tools are free, a few are fee-based. Two that are free are Zotero and Mendeley. EndNote is fee-based product. The core features for each of these tools are similar. Choice often comes down to your own personal preference.
UNB Libraries has a library team trained to assist students in the setup/use of Zotero.
Try Zotero!
Click on the Zotero guide (Step 1: Get Set Up) to download/set up a free account in Zotero and begin collecting/organizing your citations.
When you are ready to write your paper, Zotero can create in-text citations, properly formatted into whatever style you choose (the Faculty of Management prefers APA citation style). Zotero can also be used to create a properly formatted reference list or bibliography.
For more information about using Zotero, access the guide or contact one of the library staff listed on the guide.
Need Quick Citation Help?
As you now know, our library-subscribed business article databases (ABI, BSU, and CBCA) have a built-in cite button/link that can assist students in formatting citations to use in your papers/assignments.
Students should also be aware that there are free online citation generators which can help you to cite using a variety of citation styles. The majority of these generators allow you to enter your source (e.g. journal article, web page, book) information and then create a citation and reference that you can copy and paste into your paper.
NOTE: Citation generators do not save your references
