Chapter 3 questions

  1. Through any mode of your choice, create a way to depict the debate between Golgi and Cajal. You might create a comic strip, a dialogue, etc.
  2. Based on the information you see in “3.1 Characteristics of Neurons,” create a Venn diagram depicting the similarities and differences between most cells and neurons. Alternatively, use a table to show their similarities and differences.
  3. Are the cells in our bodies that are replaced new or old? Consider the argument behind George Washington’s axe as discussed in this chapter. Defend your answer.
  4. Watch the video about Suzana Herculano-Houzel. Link it to 2-3 of the concepts you have read or learned about thus far in the course.
  5. Develop a model of a neuron that you can use to identify all parts discussed here.
  6. There are two ways in which neurons are categorized in this chapter. Is one of those easier for you to understand than the other? If so, why? If not, why?
  7. Which is the most interesting glial cell to you? Why? Which is the least interesting? Why?
