Chapter 2 questions
- Why might it be important that we use language that describes the directions when discussing the brain?
- Despite the simplicity of there being only two parts to the CNS – the brain and the spinal cord – there are many structures and landmarks located within the brain. Considering yourself as a learner, what resources or strategies would best assist you in trying to remember the location and function of the structures?
- Does Dr. Dan Siegel’s hand model of the brain help you remember parts of the brain? Why or why not?
- Which lobes are associated with A1, M1, S1, and V1? What’s the rationale behind this nomenclature?
- Consider the mathematics of the section discussing the sections of the spinal cord. Does it make sense? Defend your answer.
- Consider the sympathetic effects depicted in Figure 2.15. Can you imagine a person undergoing these effects? Can you remember a time you felt these effects? If so, what was happening?
- The cranial nerves (CNs) will continue to come up in this class and the lab. Can you identify groups of CNs that work similarly or on the same area of the body?
- Are any of the clinical connections made in this chapter familiar to you? If so, where did you hear of it/them? What do you know about it/them?
