What are your Evaluation Plans?

This section looks into IPE evaluation, and includes examples of standardized assessments that can be used. These concepts must be discussed while considering equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.

Learning Objectives for Evaluation

Often an IPE will involve some form of evaluation. Students may be evaluated on their performance during the IPE, and/or the IPE event may be evaluated from a program evaluation lens to ensure it is leading to the intended outcomes. The objectives of the IPE should guide how the event is designed and on what basis the participants and/or the event may be evaluated.

Program evaluation tools used to evaluate IPE events commonly evaluate some of the following components (CIHC, 2012):

  • Attitudes
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Behaviour
  • Satisfaction

Using an example from above illustrates how a learning objective may be deconstructed to give guidance on pedagogy, design, and evaluation.

Evaluating Simulation

Evaluations for simulation based IPEs should:

  • Be selected in collaboration with all professions involved (Boet et al., 2014)
  • Include quantitative and qualitative components (Boet et al., 2014)
  • Focus on elements of interprofessional competency frameworks to assess the teams functioning (Boet et al., 2014)
