This policy applies to all students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Education and Health and covers all courses that are part of the program curriculum.
Policy:
- At Cape Breton University (CBU), transfer credits from other universities will be reviewed upon request and assessed based on program requirements.
- For students enrolled in Education programs, up to six (6) credits of electives may be transferred into the program unless otherwise specified through a memorandum of understanding or equivalent institutional agreement. Credits related to Bachelor of Education practicum and Master of Education thesis, capstone, or project, cannot be used as transfer credits as they are culminating works that substantiate students learning that is gained throughout the program through designated outcomes. In the case of the thesis, 12 credits far exceeds the 6 credits allowable for transfer.
- Students in Education and Health should consult the CBU Academic Calendar for specific details on transfer credit limits within their programs. Please note, no external transfer credits are permitted in the Occupational Health and Safety Management program.
- CBU retains the right to request physical transcripts from the issuing institution.
- Transfer credits achieved seven years or more prior to admission into a CBU program will not be considered.
- For transfer credit eligibility, a minimum grade of 60% is required for a course in the Bachelor of Education program, and a minimum grade of 70% is required for a course in the Master of Education programs or Diploma programs. These benchmarks represent the pass marks in the programs outlined above. Additional information regarding the progression policies can be found in the Academic Calendar.
Procedures:
- Students seeking transfer credit assessment will need to request assessment on their application, or by emailing transfer_credits@cbu.ca. Students will be required to submit full course outlines for any potential transfer courses to assess potential equivalencies. Transfer credits are not applied until registration.
